HARDWOOD LUMBER PRICING IN PORTLAND, ME


At Atlantic Hardwoods, we offer high-quality lumber and can accommodate your requests by special order or special onsite millwork. We always keep conservation in mind when purchasing lumber!


We maintain the climate in our warehouse to provide a moisture content of 6-8%. You may choose from dozens of species, both domestic and exotic. We stock both rough-sawn and dressed four sides lumber.

Lumber

White Oak

Domestically grown and used for furniture, flooring and cabinet work. Excellent exterior properties make it a good choice for marine and garden use as well. Consider quarter sawn when extra dimensional stability is required.

Maple (hard)

Grown in the Northern US and Southern Canada, maple is used for furniture, flooring and cabinet work. Its dense, tight grain properties make it a good choice for countertops and cutting boards.

Poplar

Domestically produced, poplar is less dense than most other hardwoods and cuts and sands with ease. Its smooth tight grain makes it a favorite for painted trim and cabinets.

Red Oak

Domestically grown and used for furniture, flooring and cabinet work. red oak is a great value compared to white oak or hickory. Its warm reddish-brown color and open-grained texture create a classic look with durable properties.

Cherry

Domestically grown and used for furniture, cabinet, jewelry boxes and artwork. Salmon in color when freshly sawn, cherry warms up when exposed to light to a classic dark reddish-brown. Tight-grained and rich in tone, this formal wood always stands out.

Birch

Locally grown and used for furniture, flooring and cabinet work. Creamy white sapwood and a warm reddish-brown heartwood create varying colors and texture.

Ash

Locally grown and used for furniture, flooring and cabinet work. A dense, creamy and open grained wood favored for striking tool handles and baseball bats, ash has exceptional tensile strength that allows it to bend a bit before fracture.

Hickory

Domestically grown and used for furniture, flooring and cabinet work. Color ranges from bright white sapwood to varying browns and black mineral streaking in the heartwood. Dense and grainy, hickory is a favorite for making a statement.

Sapele

Imported from Africa, this warm reddish-brown wood is an excellent substitute for true mahogany. Denser, more color consistent, less expensive and equally as decay resistant as hard-to-find Honduran mahogany, Sapele is a great choice for furniture, cabinets and trim both inside and out.

Teak

Primarily Imported from Burma and Southeast Asia, this golden-brown wood can be used for boat building, furniture and many outdoor projects. Teak has legendary water- and decay-resistant properties and has been favored by the marine industry for centuries. One of the more expensive hardwoods but unique in its properties and durability.

Basswood

Domestically grown with a creamy white and almost grainless texture, basswood has always been a favorite of carvers. Duck decoys, sculptures and other intricate work is made easier with this softer fiber. Basswood has limited exterior qualities.
